For those of us born in the 90s and growing up in the early 2000’s, the name Will.i.am conjurs up images of of a small man in outrages costumes singing, dancing, and rapping along with his band, the Black Eyed Peas. Between his hats and sunglasses, no one would be at fault for thinking that there wasn’t much going on business-wise in Will.i.am’s head. Those people would in fact, be wrong. It turns out that Will.i.am is not only a talented muscician and producer, but also a talented entrepreneur who is looking to make his name known and respected in the tech world.

Will.i.am’s current ventures are in the tech world and are focused on wearable technology, an umbrella term that covers everything from fitness bands to smart watches, to anything in between. His tech startup, i.am+, is looking into these wearable devices as the future and is based in Hollywood. Now, to further his plans, i.am+ has recently brought on Phil Molyneux as president and COO to Will.i.am’s CEO position. I.am+ has already had a limited release for the i.amPuls, a smartband that functions as a phone and music player and it was this product that initially grabbed the attention of Molyneux.

Phil Molyneux is a big grab for i.am+ due to his previous experience as the president of Sony Electronics in the United States. He brings a remarkable amount of expertise to the position and will go far to show both investors and the world that i.am+ is looking to make serious waves in the world of wearable technology. Molyneux was behind Sony’s development of the television industry’s first Ultra HD 4K televisions as well as the launch of an Ultra HD video service that allows downloads.

Will.i.am isn’t a novice when it comes to business and tech ventures. Aside from his success with the wildly popular Black Eyed Peas, he was also a founding shareholder of Beats. The fact that Apple bought Beats for $3 billion last year goes to show that Will.i.am clearly knows the trends in the tech world and is good at exploiting them. Will.i.am is also a proponent for math and science programs (S.T.E.M), knowing that they’re the future when it comes to technological advancement. Will.i.am’s work in the tech industry is simply a furthering of his interests.
